.Established in 2005, the Newaygo County Dark Sky Astronomers provide local area astronomers the opportunity to explore the universe. The Newaygo County Dark Sky Astronomers welcomes members of all ages and interest levels, from the first-time astronomer to the serious observer. Download the file (above left) and join the club!

Meetings:
Everyone is invited to meetings of the Newaygo County Dark Sky Astronomers. Meetings are held at the Observatory. Winter meetings are held at the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce office at 7 East Main Street, Fremont, Michigan. Anyone is welcome to take part in the many exciting opportunities that await them at the SFW Observatory.

July 24        Full Moon, National Baby Food Festival, Saturn late
 
August 11     Perseid Meteor Shower - Wednesday evening - An all-evening event CANCELLED DUE TO POWER OUTAGES AND SEVERE STORM 
PREDICTIONS FOR THE EVENING OF 8-11-21.

 

August 14    Perseid Meteor Shower, Crescent Moon, Summer Constellation Tour, Jupiter, Saturn and Deep Sky Objects
 
August 28     Summer Constellation Tour, Jupiter, Saturn, Nebulae and Galaxies
 
Sept. 25       Saturn, Jupiter, Summer Constellation Tour, Star Clusters, Galaxies and Nebulae 
 
October 9    Crescent Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Star Clusters
 
October 30   Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, Fall Constellation Tour, Taurid Meteor Shower
 
Star Parties will begin at 9:00 pm May through August
Star Parties in September and October will begin at 7:30 pm
All Star Parties are subject to cancellation due to cloudy skies
 
SAFETY PRECAUTION: Although masks are not required to attend Star Parties on or after July 24th, we are requiring that ALL NCDSA members and attendees wear a mask when physically looking through the telescopes. This will minimize potential cross contamination when using the eyepieces. Note, if you are a member or attendee that brings your own telescope, a mask is not required.

ADMISSION: Adults $5; students 17 years and younger, $2; children under 5 years, free.

Newaygo County Dark Sky Astronomers Annual Membership:
$35.00 - PULSAR Individual membership (Adults)
$25.00 - QUASAR Individual senior citizen (60 and over)
$15.00 - RED GIANTS Individual junior membership (6th - 12th grade)
$50.00 - GALAXY Family membership (all members of one family)
$50.00 - UNIVERSE Grandparents (plus grandchildren)
